Police charge one in Clint Castillo murder; Suspected shooter remains at large

By Belize Live News Staff: Police have charged one man in connection with the murder of Clint Castillo over the weekend, but the alleged shooter remains at large, authorities said on Wednesday.

Police Commissioner Chester Williams said tips occasionally come in regarding the suspect’s whereabouts, but all attempts to apprehend him have so far been unsuccessful.

“We are still looking for the person who is the suspect in that matter,” Williams said. “We received tips occasionally on his whereabouts, but every time we respond he is not found. I have personally gone to the mother and asked her to see if she would be able to assist the police in locating her son and even to the extent of asking her if she would be able to locate him and surrender him to the police. She pledged that she would do her best to do so, so we will wait to see if that is going to happen. In the meantime, we continue our efforts to locate him. He is now on our five most wanted list, so you would know that he is of great priority to us.”

Williams said the incident was not gang-related, but stemmed from an argument among friends.

“It is not gang related; they are a group of persons that hang out together, they are all friends,” he said. “Apparently, there was an argument that started between them, and that argument led to the young man, Hyde, who was charged, handing the weapon to the alleged murderer, and the alleged murderer carried out the act. So, it’s not a matter of them being gang members per se. They are employed people, and they had some argument between themselves, and it led to that.”

The police have urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in bringing the suspect to justice and providing closure to the Castillo family.
