By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Port Authority has announced the partial lifting of the port closure order that was put in place on July 1st, 2024. As of 9:00 AM on July 4th, 2024, the Big Creek Port and Punta Gorda Ports have reopened, with the exception of any closures specifically announced by the terminal operator.
The decision to reopen these ports was made after a careful assessment of the current conditions. As a result, the Belize Port Authority offices in Big Creek, Placencia, and Punta Gorda have resumed normal operations. Water taxis in these areas are also permitted to resume normal operations as per their approved permits.
However, a hurricane watch remains in effect for the northern part of Belize. As a precautionary measure, the Port of Belize will remain closed until the “All Clear” is declared by the relevant authorities. The Belize Port Authority will continue to monitor the situation closely and follow guidance from the relevant authorities to ensure the ongoing safety and security of the maritime space.
