By Belize Live News Staff: Alan Slusher, the 78-year-old former Governor of the Central Bank and current consultant, was the victim of a violent home invasion on Tuesday night, according to police reports.
Slusher had just returned home from work around 6:30 p.m., parking his grey Toyota Hilux in front of his residence in Burrell Boom, Belize District. Four men, three of whom were armed, ambushed him at gunpoint.
The assailants ransacked Slusher’s home, stealing his nine-millimeter pistol and the Hilux after taking his vehicle keys. They then bound him with wire and duct tape before fleeing the scene. Slusher managed to free himself and alert the authorities, who are now investigating the incident.
Slusher is a well-known figure in Belize, having served as the Governor of the Central Bank and held various other positions in the civil service throughout his long career. The motive for the attack remains unclear, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
