By Belize Live News Staff: Mrs. Clarita Pech has been appointed Acting Clerk of the National Assembly of Belize, effective July 1, 2024. The announcement was made today by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Valerie Woods, who chairs the National Assembly Staff Committee.
Mrs. Pech, a 25-year veteran of the National Assembly, has served as Deputy Clerk for nearly 15 years and has previously acted in the Clerk’s role. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Sector Management from the University of Belize and certificates in parliamentary mechanisms from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
The appointment follows the resignation of the former Clerk, Mr. Eddie Webster, who served for 14 years. Speaker Woods expressed appreciation for Webster’s service and confidence in Mrs. Pech’s ability to fill the role.
As Acting Clerk, Mrs. Pech will be responsible for the administration of the National Assembly and its staff services, as well as serving as the accounting officer for the offices of the Contractor General, the Ombudsman, and the Integrity Commission.
“The National Assembly Staff Committee is fully confident in Mrs. Pech serving in this critical role,” Speaker Woods said. “During her years of service and with her experience as the Deputy Clerk, Mrs. Pech is very knowledgeable of the business of the National Assembly and the Office of the Clerk. We look forward to working with her in this capacity.”
