By Belize Live News Staff: Belizeans are advised to prepare for a wet and potentially stormy weekend as moist and unstable conditions prevail across the country. The National Meteorological Service has issued a forecast predicting widespread showers, thunderstorms, and periods of rain, particularly impacting northern regions.
A Small Craft Caution is in effect for the entire coast of Belize due to anticipated gusty winds and rough seas, especially during heavy showers and thunderstorms. Mariners are urged to exercise extreme caution.
Residents in central and northern Belize are under an Excessive Rainfall Watch, with the possibility of flooding in these areas over the next 12-18 hours. It’s crucial to stay updated on weather reports and follow any instructions from authorities.
While the weekend weather is expected to be unsettled, all eyes are also on a broad area of low pressure over the northwestern Caribbean Sea. This system has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm as it moves towards the Bay of Campeche. Additionally, Tropical Storm Beryl, currently east-southeast of Barbados, is predicted to intensify into a hurricane as it nears the Windward Islands.
The rainy pattern is expected to continue into Sunday morning, with a few outbreaks of showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly affecting the north. However, the weather should gradually improve by Sunday night, with showers becoming more isolated.
Belize Live News will continue to provide updates on the developing weather situation. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to our channel for the latest forecasts and advisories. Please prioritize safety during this period of unsettled weather.
