State of Emergency declared in parts of Belize and Cayo Districts to combat gang violence

By Belize Live News Staff: A State of Emergency has been declared in certain areas of Belize and Cayo Districts following a recent surge in violence, including shootings and murders. The declaration, announced by Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, comes after law enforcement conducted operations in several Belize City neighborhoods known for gang activity.

The State of Emergency encompasses sections of Cotton Tree and Roaring Creek Village, where individuals suspected of gang involvement were apprehended after an attack on the village police station early Sunday morning. The declaration also covers the St. Martins, Kelly Street, and Victoria Street neighborhoods of Belize City, all of which have experienced recent shootings and murders.

Commissioner Williams, along with numerous police officers, actively participated in the operations carried out in the St. Martins area. The State of Emergency is expected to remain in effect for a limited time, during which authorities will implement enhanced security measures to address the ongoing violence and restore order in the affected communities.
