Williams confirmed the incident via a statement shared on social media, assuring the public of his and his son’s safety.
The Commissioner, who had just arrived in New York to participate in the UN Chiefs of Police conference, was informed of the shooting by his son who was at home during the incident. The police have launched an investigation into the matter, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In his statement, Commissioner Williams condemned the act as a “clear example why as a society we cannot go easy on these criminals who believe that they can run our streets and keep our law abiding citizens hostage with impunity.” He reaffirmed his commitment to keeping the people of Belize safe, even in the face of personal threats.
