The Tier 2 ranking signifies Belize’s substantial progress in meeting the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking. While recognizing the global complexities of this issue, the Government of Belize remains dedicated to continuous improvement and comprehensive strategies to address human trafficking within its borders.
Notably, the report commends Belize’s efforts in securing convictions against two traffickers, enhancing victim identification, and increasing the number of trafficking investigations. The government’s cooperation with international law enforcement, resulting in the arrest and conviction of a trafficker, was also recognized.
Furthermore, the report acknowledges Belize’s sustained awareness campaigns, including specialized training for liquor licensing board members to identify and address potential trafficking situations.
