By Belize Live News Staff: Police apprehended a Belize City resident and seized an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in a joint operation on Saturday evening.
At approximately 9:15 PM, authorities acted on information that Jahstar Gonguez, 20, wanted for an ongoing robbery investigation, was at Shanda Gonzalez’s residence behind the Seine Bight cemetery. Police approached the house, identified themselves, and detained Gonguez.
Gonguez, along with Gonzalez, was informed that the house would be searched for illegal drugs and firearms. The search yielded a Glock 17 9mm pistol with no serial number and an extended magazine containing 25 rounds of 9mm ammunition inside a bathroom bucket. Neither Gonguez nor Gonzalez possessed a firearm license.
Both were arrested and taken to the Seine Bight Police Station. The firearm and ammunition were inspected, initialed, and sealed. Gonguez signed the sealed packages while Gonzalez refused.
Both Gonguez and Gonzalez are currently in custody pending formal charges.
