One dead, one fighting for life in Belize City shooting

By Belize Live News Staff: A gunman opened fire on a car on Mahogany Street Extension this afternoon, killing one man and leaving another critically injured.

The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Stanley Jerome Moore, a laborer from Faber’s Road. The injured victim, 27-year-old Joshua Gillett, a fisherman from West Collet Canal, is currently undergoing emergency surgery at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

The shooting occurred around 4:10 PM near the corner of Mahogany Street Extension and Amandala Drive. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots before the silver BMW sedan crashed to a halt.

Police are investigating the motive for the attack, but initial reports suggest it may have been a targeted hit.

This latest incident comes amid a surge in violent crime in Belize City, raising concerns about the safety and security of residents. The police have pledged to intensify their efforts to combat crime, but the public is also being urged to do their part by reporting any suspicious activity.
