The Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing has announced the upcoming closure of the San Martin Bridge in Belmopan, starting June 24th and continuing through October 26th, 2024.
The temporary closure is necessary to facilitate the construction of a new, improved bridge that will feature two traffic lanes and two sidewalks. The project also includes enhancements to the bridge approaches, promising a safer and more efficient traffic flow in the area.
During the closure, motorists are advised to utilize the Bridge on Cemetery Road as an alternative route. While the pedestrian crossing will remain open, the public is urged to exercise caution and adhere to safety advisories due to the ongoing construction work.
The Ministry is appealing to all road users to be vigilant, drive carefully, and follow traffic instructions and warnings from safety officers and flagmen throughout the construction period.
The new San Martin Bridge is expected to be a significant upgrade to Belmopan’s infrastructure, improving transportation and pedestrian safety for residents and visitors alike.
